Making an appointment

Three steps to your appointment

  1. Discuss a referral with your GP

Discuss with your GP (general practitioner) whether a referral to Femmecare makes sense for you.

For insured care at Femmecare or in a hospital, you always need a referral from your GP.

  2. Scheduling your appointment

Your GP usually sends the referral to us digitally. As soon as we have received it, we will contact you within seven working days to make an appointment. So there is no need to call us.

  3. Intake consultation and start of your treatment plan

    We start your treatment.

We will contact you

Has your GP referred you digitally? Then you do not need to do anything yourself. We will call you within seven working days of receiving the referral to arrange an appointment together. So there is no need to call us.

If we cannot reach you, we will try again later or email you a proposed date and time.

When should you contact us?

  • You were given a paper referral.
  • You have not heard from us after seven working days.
  • You would like to reschedule or cancel an appointment, or you have another question.

You can reach us by phone on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:30 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00.

Costs

Costs and reimbursement

Care at Femmecare is insured care covered by the Dutch basic health insurance package. You do need a referral from your GP.

You do not pay a personal contribution (eigen bijdrage) at Femmecare: we waive it as a goodwill gesture. However, (part of) the invoice may fall under your statutory deductible (eigen risico), just as in a hospital.

Your GP as the coordinator of good care

Many GP practices have extensive knowledge and experience of women’s health problems and questions, such as contraception, menstrual problems and the menopause. This applies both to the GP and to the practice nurses. In many cases, a referral to Femmecare is not necessary at all and your GP can already help you very well. Your GP can tell you more about this and assess with you what the best next step is.

When your symptoms call for more specialised care, Femmecare is there as a partner. In most cases, care through Femmecare is reimbursed by your health insurer, provided your GP has issued a referral. As the coordinator of your care, your GP is the right person to assess with you whether a referral to one of the Femmecare partners is appropriate for your situation. Your GP knows your medical history and the wider picture of your care, and is therefore the best person to help you take the right step.
